Arthur Henry Turner, who was born in January 1924, was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in the General Duties Branch of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in February 1945, direct from previous service as an Aircraftman 2nd Class. He subsequently gained appointment as a substantive Flying Officer in the Royal Air Force after the War, was advanced to Flight Lieutenant in October 1948 and to Squadron Leader in October 1955, in which latter rank he was awarded the A.F.C. for his services at the Central Flying School (London Gazette 12 June 1958). Turner was placed on the Retired List as a Wing Commander in August 1972, having served as Chief of Air Staff (Operations) in the Persian Gulf 1962-65.
