New Zealand Memorial Cross, G.VI.R. (501287 Gnr. J. B. Elliot) nearly extremely fine £60-80

James Bruce Elliot was born in Auckland, New Zealand on 5 November 1904, the son of Sir George Elliot, Kt., O.B.E. and Lady Elliott. A Solicitor by occupation, he attested for military service on 12 September 1939. He was posted as a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the 13th Heavy Battery, New Zealand Artillery in January 1940 (New Zealand Gazette 15 February 1940) and was promoted to Temporary Lieutenant in the New Zealand Temporary Staff in May 1942 (New Zealand Gazette 18 June 1942) - retaining his appointment as Air Intelligence Liaison Officer, Northern Military District. He reverted to the ranks in June 1943 and to the rank of Gunner in September that year. As a Gunner with the 4th Field Regiment New Zealand Artillery he was killed in action serving in Italy on 5 December 1943. He was buried in the Sangro River War Cemetery. Gunner Elliot was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, War Medal and New Zealand Service Medal. Sold with copied service papers.
