M.C. London Gazette 1 February 1919. ‘Capt., 1st Bn. Scots Gds.’ ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 27th September, 1918, during the attack on the Hindenburg support line south of Graincourt. He led the attack with cheerful optimism under heavy fire, capturing a machine gun and accounting for four of the enemy himself, besides being the first up at the objective. He did fine work.’

Robert Alexander Abercromby was born on 15 August 1895. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Scots Guards on 11 November 1914, promoted to Lieutenant on 2 January 1915 and Captain on 6 April 1917. He served in France/Flanders from 2 November 1915 to 30 March 1917 and 5 April to 11 November 1918. Promoted to Major in 1931, he was later in the Reserve of Officers. In 1945 Major Abercromby was a co-opted member of the Banff Territorial Army Association.
