Arthur Douglas Spooner was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the A.S.C. on 28 October 1914 and entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 2 November 1914, serving with the Motor Transport Depot. He was promoted to Lieutenant in December 1914, Captain in February 1916 and attained the rank of Major in November 1917.
