In the latter, the Battery, along with 17 Battery, 26 Regiment, was attached to the 3rd Regiment R.H.A. Initially part of the 7th Armoured Brigade, for their first action, they were attached to the 3rd Commando Brigade. Both batteries were involved in the early fighting and on 21 March 2003, with D Battery, 3rd Regiment R.H.A., they provided the support for the U.S. 15 Marine Expeditionary Unit in their dawn assault on Umn Qasr and Az Zubyar port where their AS-90 self propelled artillery with 155mm. guns was used with great effect. They subsequently took part in the advance into Basra. Hancox left the Army later in 2003. Additionally entitled to the Golden Jubilee Medal 2002.
