Three: Midshipman A. V. Pumfrey, Royal Naval Reserve, who was killed in action on 18 February 1940

1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; War Medal 1939-45, all unnamed, extremely fine (3) £80-100

Midshipman Alan Victor Pumfrey, R.N.R., was killed in action on 18 February 1940, aged 19 years, when the destroyer H.M.S. Daring was torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine off Duncansby Head, Scotland. Of the complement of 162 officers and men only one officer and four ratings were saved.

Sold with Admiralty condolence slip named to ‘Midshipman Alan Victor Pumfrey, R.N.R.’ and lid of card forwarding box addressed to ‘Mr A. V. Pumfrey, 6 Springfield Road, Kingston on Thames, Surrey’.
