Thomas Cooper was born in Salthouse, Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire on 12 December 1897. A Stable Hand by occupation, he enlisted for service in the Royal Marines on 15 January 1915. Posted to the light cruiser Hyacinth in November 1915, he remained with the ship until after the war. During 1-20 September 1916, Cooper ‘landed for Special Service in East Africa’. He was discharged from the Royal Marines ‘on compassionate grounds’ on 17 September 1921 and was enrolled into the Royal Fleet Reserve. Sold with copied service paper; entitled to 1914-15 Star.
