George Henry Holden was born in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath and enlisted at Beverley, East Yorkshire. Serving in the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 18 April 1915, aged 32 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Meinin Gate) Memorial. He was the son of John and Lizzie Holden of Broomspring Lane, Broomhall, Sheffield and husband of Annie Elizabeth Read (formerly Holden) of 56 Moorsyde Avenue, Walkley, Sheffield.
