Petty Officer Tabb was specially recommended by Commander Grant for services with the naval brigade in his despatch dated, Simon’s Town, 30 October 1900.

Thomas Henry Tabb was born at Slapton, near Kingsbridge, Devon, on 4 December 1867, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class aboard H.M.S.
Lion on 13 February 1883. He joined Doris as a Leading Seaman in November 1897 but was advanced to Petty Officer 2nd Class the following month, and to 1st Class in April 1898. He served ashore in South Africa with the naval brigade from Doris until the end of May 1901, receiving his L.S. & G.C. medal in January of that year. Shore pensioned in December 1905, he joined the Royal Fleet Reserve at Devonport in July 1906, and served in Ocean from August 1914 until 20 January 1915, when he died from a cancer of the stomach.
