Five: Corporal F. Marchbank, 18th Hussars

Frederick Marchbanks was born in Liverpool. A Fitter by occupation, he attested for the Army on 7 April 1899, aged 18 years, 2 months. Posted to the 18th Hussars, he served in South Africa, July 1900-October 1902 and was transferred to the Army Reserve in 1906. He was employed in civilian life as a Postman. With the start of the Great War, he was mobilized at Scarborough on 5 August 1914. Entering the France/Flanders theatre of war on 15 August 1914, he served with the 18th Hussars. On 27 November he was admitted to the 14th General Hospital at Boulogne suffering from frostbite and was invalided to England. He was discharged on 6 April 1916 at the termination of his period of engagement. Frederick Marchbanks died on 15 December 1974.

Sold with copied research and a fine collection of original documents, including: Birth Certificate; Parchment Certificate of Discharge, 1906; Parchment Reserve Certificate, 1906; Marriage Certificate, 1908; Form of Will, 1914; Certificate of Discharge, 1916; Copy of Death Certificate, 1974; Anfield Cemetery Certificate and a number of original and copied photographs. Also with the recipient’s named identity disk; ‘Queen Mary’s Own’ cap badge and St. John Ambulance Brigade Re-Examination Medal with ‘1922’ bar (241844 Frederick Marchbank).
