Muster rolls reveal that William Daniels served for brief periods of attachment to the 1/24th Foot and R.A. at the time of the Zulu War operations in 1879. He had earlier participated in the Perak expedition, once again with a brief period of attachment - to the 10th Foot - and in the Sekukini operations of 1878, and appears to have been placed on the Army Reserve on his return to the U.K. from South Africa.
