Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 3 clasps, Delhi, Lucknow, Relief of Lucknow (Serjt. Jas. L. Tancock, 9th Lancers) suspension post refixed, edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise good fine £600-700

James Lee Tancock was born in the parish of Newton Bushel, Devon and enlisted in the 9th Lancers in October 1844, aged 22 years. In his subsequent career of 24 years with the Colours, he served for 13 years in the ‘Bengal East Indies’ and qualified for the above described Medal and clasps, in addition to the Punjab Medal for the battles of Chillianwala and Goojerat. Having been advanced to Sergeant in February 1857 and to Troop Sergeant-Major in April 1863, he was finally discharged in the rank of Squadron Quarter-Master Sergeant in March 1870. Tancock was also awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal.
