Punjab 1848-49, 1 clasp, Mooltan (Asst. Surgn. W. Delpratt, Arty. Dn. Bengal Army) slight contact marks, very fine £340-380

William Delpratt was born in Jamaica on 19 July 1822. After qualifying as a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (London) in 1846 he was nominated as an Assistant Surgeon in the East India Company’s Bengal Medical Service and arrived in Calcutta in January 1848. During the 2nd Sikh War he served with the Foot Artillery at Mooltan. During 1850 he was appointed sucessively to the 5th, 58th and 12th Bengal N.I., being appointed to medical charge of the 12th Bengal N.I. in May 1851. During 1853-54 he was in medical charge of civil establishments and the 2nd Police Battalion at Bunnoo and in 1858 afforded medical aid to detachments at Dera Ghazi Khan. He resigned from the service in 1861. Sold with copied service details.
