R.R.C. London Gazette 31 December 1983. Recommendation states: ‘During her 26 years in Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps Lieutenant Colonel Anne Tidey has served in Military Hospitals at home and overseas. She has worked mainly in her specialist sphere as a sick childrens’ nurse where her extensive professional knowledge and profound dedication to the care of these vulnerable young patients has caused her to be held in high esteem throughout her Corps. She has also served for two years in the appointment of Matron with a British Military Medical Team on loan service to Bahrain, a unique and difficult task where her powers of leadership, tact and diplomacy combined with her sustained good humour and common sense approach contributed greatly to the successful establishment of the newly commissioned hospital. In her present appointment as Matron she continues to exhibit these same qualities to an outstanding degree. She spares no effort on behalf of her patients, either in the care or interest she bestows upon them herself, or in the manner in which she trains her staff to attain her own high standards of professionalism. The excellence of her organisational and administrative ability is apparent throughout the hospital not only in its peacetime routine but also when exercising in its mobilisation role, where her spirit of enthusiasm, wise decisions and calming influence are an example to her staff and play a vital part in the efficiency of the unit. A loyal and dedicated officer, Lieutenant Colonel Tidey works tirelessly for the benefit of her patients and in the interests of her staff. Her contribution to Army Nursing has been conspicuous and immeasurable ....’

Anne Tidey was born on 19 June 1932. Commissioned a Lieutenant (S.S.C.) in the Q.A.R.A.N.C. in August 1954, she attained the rank of Colonel in October 1983. She was appointed Chief Medical (Nursing) H.Q. Western District in July 1983, having previously held the same post at H.Q. Northern Ireland.
