George Northmore Arthur Pollard joined as a Naval Cadet in 1861. He served as a Midshipman in Canada on board the Wolverine, receiving one of 10 medals issued to this vessel for service in the Fenian Raid of 1866. He was Lieutenant of the Simoom in the Ashantee campaign of 1873-74 (Medal), and was promoted to Commander in December 1885. He was made Captain in January 1894 and retired in March 1902.
