A Korean War B.E.M. group of nine awarded to Chief Petty Officer (Gunnery Instructor) Joseph McCann, Royal Navy

R.N.); 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Burma Star; War Medal; Korea 1950-53 (C.P.O. R.N.); U.N. Korea; Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.VI.R., 2nd issue (C.P.O., H.M.S. Daedalus) mounted Court style as worn, the stars plated, otherwise very fine and better (9) £500-600

The group is sold with his original Certificate of Service, two Trade Certificates, Apprenticeship Indenture for the Sea Fishing Service (27 April 1931), and a good pre-war photograph album with many photographs of battleships and destroyers in the Mediterranean.

Joseph McCann was born at Fleetwood, Lancashire, on 14 May 1916, and was a Trawler Deck Hand before he joined the Royal Navy in December 1934. He served aboard H.M.S.
Blanche in Palestine and was aboard the battleship Nelson at the outbreak of war, in which ship he served until March 1941. Thereafter most of his WWII service was spent at various gunnery establishments at home and in the Far East. During the Korean war he was serving aboard the cruiser Newcastle from January 1952 until June 1954. He was presented with his L.S. & G.C. on 7 February 1950, and was pensioned out of the navy in December 1956.
