M.M. London Gazette 2 August 1945: Lance-Corporal Frederick J. Brayson (Newcastle-upon-Tyne), 2nd Battalion, The Royal Scots Fusiliers. The following details were taken from the official recommendation:

‘On 22 April 1945, Lance-Corporal Brayson was in command of a section of 16 pl “D” Coy. The Coy was performing a right flanking attack on Neu Darchau. In the course of the attack, Lance-Corporal Brayson was wounded. He carried on in command of the section, which continued to mop up stiff enemy opposition en route. Lance-Corporal Brayson was wounded a second time and relinquished command of his section only when he was too weak to maintain the pace of the advance. Exhorting his section to continue, he then endeavoured to carry a wounded comrade to safety, and was finally himself evacuated in a state of collapse. Throughout the action, Lance-Corporal Brayson’s personal example of courage and guts was an inspiration to his section. Acting on his final orders, the section continued, without an NCO and reached the objective.’
