neck badge, silver-gilt and enamels, fitted with replacement suspension ring; Distinguished Service Order, G.V.R., obverse centre a little depressed; Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith (Lieut., 1/Border Rgt.); 1914-15 Star (Major, E. York.R.); British War and Victory Medals, with oak leaf M.I.D. emblem (Lt. Col.); General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Iraq (Lt. Francis Henry Harvey served with the 1st Battalion, Border Regiment in South Africa during the Boer War; performed duties of Assistant Adjutant at Green Point Camp from 1 August 1900. He was present at the Relief of Ladysmith, and actions at Colenso, Spion Kop, Vall Krantz, and Pieters Hill. After the war he transferred to the Indian Army and then, in 1908, to the East Yorkshire Regiment. He served in france 1915-18, being awarded the D.S.O. and was three times mentioned in despatches. In October 1918, he was appointed Chief-of-Staff to General Knox in Siberia and remained there until December 1919. For his services in Siberia he received the C.M.G. and his fourth mention in despatches. In May 1920, he rejoined the 2nd Bn. of the East Yorks Regiment in Iraq and took command of the battalion in November 1920. He retired in 1924
