with oak leaf M.I.D. emblem; Africa Service Medal, all officially impressed (71570 L. D. Kohler) mounted as worn, together with several wartime photographs of the recipient in uniform and another on board ship, very fine (5) £80-120

M.I.D. London Gazette 24 July 1945. Seedies roll states: Lionel Dedrick Kohler, A.B.,S.A.N.F. (V), H.M.S.A.S. Natal, for sinking a U-Boat in the North Sea on 14 March 1945. This was the U714 (Lt-Cdr. Schwebke) which had recently sunk the Norwegian minesweeping trawler Nordhav and another ship of 1226 tons, before being sunk by the new South African frigate Natal.
