John Edward Hermon was born in February 1899 and was a publican in Bridlington from July 1915 until March 1917, when he joined the Royal Flying Corps. In September 1917 he was passed ‘Fit as Observer, unfit as Pilot,’ and subsequently served with 108 Squadron and 49 Squadron in France. The history of 108 Squadron records that he served as an Observer on 9 raids against enemy targets. Sold with copy of service papers.
