A D.C.M. group of six miniature dress medals and other items relating to Sergeant W. N. Berkeley, 25th Battalion, A.I.F., comprising: D.C.M., G.V.R.; 1914-15 Star, the reverse stamped ‘Flavelles, Brisbane’; British War and Victory Medals, M.I.D.; French Croix de Guerre with palm; Al Valore Militare, bronze; together with a 9 carat gold Welcome Home medal (Pres. to Sgt. W. Berkeley D.C.M., M.M. (sic.), on his return from Egypt & France, Apl. 1919); miniature portrait in oils on ivorine of the recipient in uniform with D.C.M. and Al Valore ribbons; three identity discs, 15th and 25th bns.; silver vesta case with monogram ‘WB’; two wartime receipts for prisoners taken in the Front Line, and a quantity of related family photographs, generally good very fine (Lot) £500-600

D.C.M. London Gazette 21 October 1918: ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This NCO has rendered good and gallant service during the period under review. He was present at two very important actions in which the unit was engaged, behaving with much gallantry and devotion to duty. He was wounded in each of these battles, and in all has been wounded four times during his three years’ service in the field.’
