French Medal of Honour (Ministere de la Marine et des Colonies), silver, 34mm, the reverse with struck inscription (A Isaac Bourner, Matelot du Brig Angls. Allerton Packet. Courage et Dévouement 1871) together with original diploma contained in a bound booklet setting out the regulations of the award, this a little distressed, the medal nearly extremely fine £100-120

Translation of award certificate: ‘The Minister of the Marine and of the Colonies certifies that, by a decree dated the 25th January 1872, the President of the French Republic has awarded a Medal of Honour, in silver, to the sailor Isaac Bourner of the brig Allerton Packet, of Middlesbrough, for having saved, on the 17th November 1871, at the peril of his life, the crew of the three-masted French vessel Catherine, of St Malo, shipwrecked near the port of Calais.’
