Edward Percy Hicks was born on 16 March 1843, son of Lieutenant-General George Hicks, C.B., Bengal Army. He was gazetted Ensign in the 42nd Highlanders on 24 May 1861, and became Lieutenant on 12 September 1865. He landed on the Gold Coast with the 42nd Highlanders in January 1874, and was left with a detachment at Yancoomassie Fanta (Ashanti Medal). Promoted to Captain on 30 September 1874, Hicks transferred in 1875 to the 100th Regiment, and subsequently resided at St Helier, Jersey, where he died on 26 August 1884.
