Estimate: £200–£250

Charles II, Restoration Medal, 1660 (formerly known as a Pattern Broad), in silver, by T. Simon, laureate bust in armour right, reverse crowned shield, edge plain, 8.58gm (Lessen, BNJ 1995, type B, and pl.10, 4, same dies; M.I. 463/59; N. 2776). Almost very fine, toned, rare (£200-250)

Lessen argues convicingly that all the 1660 pieces previously known as pattern broads are correctly medals, made probably to commemorate the Restoration but not necessarily in the Restoration year of 1660 (BNJ 1995, pp.156-7)
