Albert Edward Watts was born in St. Andrew’s, Rugby and enlisted at Rugby. Serving with the 7th Battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps, he died of wounds on 30 July 1915, received whilst in trenches at Hooge, when the Germans launched a ‘liquid fire’ attack. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. The 7th battalion, out of a strength of 22 officers and 778 other ranks, lost 9 officers killed and 4 wounded and 289 other ranks killed and wounded.
