‘For conspicuous gallantry in rescuing wounded during the retirement from Jasin on the 18th January 1915. They each in turn engaged the pursuing enemy in hand to hand combats, and succeeded in bringing off their wounded comrades, without the loss of a single rifle.’ Citation signed by J.W. Tighe, Major-General, Commanding the Forces in B.E.A. and Uganda. Medal issued from Woolwich on 6 June 1919.
