D.C.M. London Gazette 26 July 1917 ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When an ammunition dump was set on fire he rushed out and succeeded in putting the fire out alone. The battery at the time was being heavily shelled. His prompt action prevented a serious explosion.’

Ernest E. White entered the French theatre of war on 16.8.1914.
