Frank Joseph Hopkins was born in 1899 at Rotherhithe, London. A plumbers labourer by trade, Hopkins enlisted in the Royal Navy in April 1917 for 12 years. He served on H.M.S. Pembroke (Chatham), firstly as a Probationary Sick Berth Attendant, being promoted S.B.A. in July 1918. During May - October 1919 he served aboard the river monitor H.M.S. Humber in North Russia. Hopkins gained his first Good Conduct Badge in 1920 and his second in 1925. He was passed for L.S.B.A. in 1920 and S.B.P.O. in 1927 and awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1932. Later promoted S.B.C.P.O. Hopkins is believed to have served off Palestine aboard H.M.S. Sussex. Sold with riband bars and copied service and research papers.
