The mounted group of eight miniature dress medals attributed to Lieutenant-Colonel C. J. B. Daubeny, Essex Regiment, Queen’s South Africa, 4 clasps, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901. South Africa 1902; 1914 Star, with bar; British War and Victory Medals, M.I.D. Oakleaf; Egypt, Order of the Nile, 4th Class, silver, silver-gilt and enamel, rosette on ribbon; France, Third Republic, Legion of Honour, gold and enamel; France, Croix de Guerre, 1914-1916; Khedive’s Sudan 1910-22, 1 clasp, S. Kordofan 1910, mounted Court style as worn, Nile with enamel damage, very fine and better (8) £70-90

Cyril James Brooke Daubeny entered the Army in 1896 as 2nd Lieutenant in the Essex Regiment, attaining the rank of Captain 1903. He served with the regiment in South Africa 1901-02 and then with the Egyptian Army saw service in Sudan. In the Great War he served in France and Flanders, was wounded, mentioned in despatches four times, given the brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel and awarded the French Legion of Honour 4th Class and Croix de Guerre.
