Military General Service 1793-1814, 2 clasps, Vittoria, Orthes (Edward Divine, 88th Foot) minor edge nicks and contact marks, very fine £600-700

Edward Divine (or Devine), who was born at Stranorla, Co. Donegal, enlisted in the 88th Foot in September 1811 and was discharged in Paris in March 1816 as a result of a gunshot wound in the left arm, damage no doubt inflicted at Orthes in February 1814, when the French Cavalry got in amongst the 88th’s leading companies, causing over 250 casualties. Previously, at Vittoria, in June 1813, the Regiment sustained casualties of 35 killed and 200 wounded, following a series of gallant bayonet charges being made at the behest of Sir Thomas Picton.
