In 211 Septimius Severus, worn out by his campaigns, died at York. Geta, together with Caracalla, inherited the Empire jointly and immediately ended the war in Britain, returning to Rome. Though no decisive victory, as proclaimed by the official propaganda on this issue, had been won, peace to the south of Hadrian’s Wall was achieved for nearly a century
