First with small reverse edge nick at 7 o’clock otherwise about very fine, second fair but rare, the only two issues for this locality (£60-80)

William Winstanley (1628-98), former barber, then draper and poet who described himself as “a true lover of ingenuity”, wrote a book on the history of the Merchant Tailor’s company in 1668 referred to in Pepys’ Diary, first wife Martha (†1652), second wife Anne, née Prime (†1691); his nephew, William Winstanley, designed the first Eddystone lighthouse
