On the 21st May 1982 the frigate HMS Ardent bombarded the airfield at Goose Green in support of the landings. She was attacked twice by Argentinian aircraft and, on the second occasion, was crippled by a bomb. 22 of the crew were killed. Burning out of control, the ship was abandoned and later sank.
