Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund 1803, an extremely rare Honorary Letter addressed to Serjt. Thomas Crisp, 38th Regiment, inscribed ‘Lloyd’s March 22. 1808. I am directed by the Committee to inform you that at a General Meeting held this day, they voted you the Sum of Fifteen Pounds, in consideration of the Wound you received in the Service of your Country, in action with the Enemy at Monte Video on the 3d day of February 1807’, several creases and some loss to both lower corners, otherwise relatively fresh and a rare survival £600-800

The Honorary Letter of Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund was designed in 1804 by Sir Robert Ker Porter, a well known artist of the time, and engraved by Edward Scriven, who had title Historical Engraver to H.R.H. the Princess of Wales. It was decided that the letters to recipients of gratuities, or honorary awards, should be written by the Boys of Christ’s Hospital, under the inspection of the writing master, with the permission of the Governors of that Hospital.
