M.C. London Gazette 24 January 1946. The recommendation states ‘Captain Cooper has served with 9 Brit. Fd. Amb. since June 44. He has been employed as Officer i/c C.C.P. in almost every 9 Inf. Bde. engagement. In battle conditions he has done excellently and has always shown great coolness and steadiness under fire. He particularly distinguished himself at the crossing of the Escault Canal (19 Sept.) when his section was in support of 2 Lincs on the right flank. There were heavy casualties, in the early stages the place in which the C.C.P. was situated was under small arms fire as well as shell fire. Captain Cooper however, dealt most efficiently with all casualties and supervised their evacuation.

In the battle around Overloon (14 Oct.) his section was again in support of 2 Lincs, and the woods of the L.A.A.G. Heide in which the C.C.P. was, came in for heavy harassing mortar and shell fire. About 100 casualties were attended to that day by Captain Cooper under most difficult conditions. His cheerful courage, whatever the circumstances, and leadership of his section have been marked throughout the campaign and are deserving of the the highest praise.’
