17th Century, Buckingham, John Hartlee, Farthings (2, different rev. dies), heart, 1.24g/6h, mm. mullet, reads bvckinggam (Berry & Morley 41; BW. 32), and 0.86g/6h, mm. mullet, reads bvckinggam, with diamond stop over i of initials (Berry & Morley 42; SCBI Norweb 296, this piece; BW. 32); John Hartlee, Farthing, 1650, heart, mm. mullet, 1.11g/6h (Berry & Morley 40; SCBI Norweb 297, same dies; BW. 33); John Hartlee, Farthing, heart, mm. sexfoil, 0.88g/12h, reads bvckinggame (Berry & Morley 43; BW –); John Hartley, Farthing, 1660, heart, mm. pierced mullet, 1.24g/12h (Berry & Morley 44; BW. 34); John Hartley, Halfpenny, 1660, heart, reads ob[olus = Halfpenny], rev. tree, 1.64g/12h (Berry & Morley 45; SCBI Norweb 298, same dies; BW. 34A) [6]. B & M 41, 40 and 45 very fine, B & M 44 weak in parts but fine and extremely rare, the best of only two specimen in private hands, others only fair but both very rare; an exceptional group of this issuer, only lacking one recently-discovered and as yet unpublished variety (£250-300)

John Hartley (1605-1679), mercer and draper; married Elizabeth Grove in January 1626. The Hartley family was widespread in the town. The styles of B & M 41 and 42 would suggest an earlier issue than B & M 40
