Estimate: £350–£400

Confectioners, Bakers and Allied Trades Exhibitions, medals in 9ct gold (3), Glasgow, 1928, wt. 14g; London, 1931, wt. 46g, and 1937, special Coronation issue, by Mappin & Webb, oval, 50 x 40mm, wt. 38g; in silver, 1936; and in bronze (2), London, 1925, 1935, all named (J. Morrison & Sons Ltd, Stevenston) [6]. Extremely fine or better; in cases of issue (£350-400)

Of particular issue is the gold medal for 1937. The exhibition committee celebrated the event by replacing the usual bust of Ceres by the conjoined busts of George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the inscription coronation above and the date 1937. The vendor suggests the medal in gold is unique and indeed this may well be the case. Research would probably reveal whether one or more gold medals were awarded in 1937. A similar medal for the Coronation of George V in 1911 is known (DNW 48, lot 889)
