William Beatty was appointed Major in the 64th (2nd Staffordshire) Regiment on 24 May 1810, and Lieutenant-Colonel on 3 March 1814. He commanded the 12th Portuguese Infantry at the battles of Nivelle, Nive, Orthes and Toulouse, for which he had the honour of wearing a Cross. Colonel Beatty died in 1815.
