Captain & Paymaster Carleton Haynes served in the Zulu war in 1879 (Medal with Clasp). During the Boer war of 1880 he was employed at Fort Newcastle, and he later served in the Afghan war in 1880 (Medal). He served with the Chitral Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 1895 with the 1st Battalion East Lancashire Regiment (Medal with Clasp).
