Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Syria (L. de T. Prevost, Mate) good very fine £400-500

Lewis de Tessier Prevost was born on 27 December 1814, the eldest son of Rear-Admiral Prevost by his second marriage. He entered the Royal Naval College in February 1828, and embarked in November 1829, as First Class Volunteer, on board the Druid, in which ship he served on the South American and Lisbon stations until June 1833. He passed his examination in the spring of 1834 and became Mate of the Gannet in the West Indies. After further service in the Favourite and Inconstant, he served as Mate of the Magicienne in the operations off the coast of Syria in 1840. He was promoted to Lieutenant in November 1841 and appointed to the Vernon, and subsequently to the Waterwitch and Pantaloon sloops. For the gallant manner in which, in the boats of the latter vessel, of which he was senior Lieutenant, he boarded and carried a slaver on the coast of Africa, he was promoted to the rank of Commander. He was placed on the Retired List as Captain on 1 July 1864.
