BRITISH COINS Victoria, Britannia Groat, 1852 (ESC 1948-R3; SC 130).Very fine, has been cleaned, extremely rare in all grades (£180-220)

ESC notes the 2 of the date is slightly slanted; while SC comments “2 of date unusually large on some specimens”. In the case of the present coin the 8, 5 and 2 are all misaligned. The dates seen on Britannia groats vary quite considerably and it appears less care was given to correct alignment than was the case with higher denominations. It is a topic worthy of further specialist research.
