The Southern Exposition, Louisville, Kentucky, large bronze prize medal, 1883, to ‘Cradborn & Caldwell Mfg. Co. for the Best Display of Lawn Mowers’, 72mm. About extremely fine but that part of the inscription reading ‘best display of’ has been subject to heavy and deliberate scratching (£20-30)

It is entertaining, but profitless, to speculate on the circumstances surrounding the vandalisation of the reverse legend, doubtless a member of a rival manufacturer of lawn mowers was involdved or perhaps a less than gruntled client.
