Three: Private S. Leech, 10th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force, who was killed in action at Gallipoli on ANZAC day, 25 April 1915

Samuel Leech was born in Wigan, Lancashire, in 1885 and having emigrated to Australia attested for the 2nd Reinforcements, 10th Infantry, Australian Imperial Force, at Oaklands, South Australia, on 30 November 1914. He embarked at Melbourne on H.M.A.T. Clan MacGillivray on 2 February 1915 and served with the 10th Battalion during the Great War at Gallipoli. Posted missing, he was officially deemed to have been killed in action on the first day of the operations, ANZAC Day, 25 April 1915. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Turkey.
