Sydney George Twigg was born in Tunstall, Staffordshire, and attested for the Royal Engineers in London. He served with them during the Great War on the Western Front, before transferring to the Tank Corps, and was killed in action whilst serving with “D” Battalion on 27 August 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
