The 1st Battalion, King’s Regiment formed part of the 29th Infantry Brigade in Korea with the 1st Black Watch and 1st Duke of Wellington’s Regiment. The King’s relieved the 1st Norfolk Regiment on 21 September 1952 and by late 1952 they had distinguished themselves with their excellent patrol work and ‘snatch squads’. They saw action on 24-25 May 1953 when they sent out strong patrols into enemy positions and they came to the support of the men of the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment during the Chinese attack on the ‘Hook’ on 28-29 May 1953. The King’s Regiment were again involved on the night of the 3-4 June 1953 in the destruction of 15 enemy tunnels undertaken by one Sapper officer and 14 men from No. 1 Troop 55th Field Squadron Royal Engineers.
