Marie-Antoinette (1755-93), Queen of France, aroused the hostile passions that helped lead to the French Revolution and the abolition of the French monarchy in August 1792. Having secretly aided Austria’s counter-revolutionary invasion of France, she was executed by guillotine for treason on 16 October 1793
