18th Century Tokens, Unlocalised issues, Kempson’s Loyal Yeoman Twopence, 1798, yeoman leaning against horse, loyal yeoman pro rege lege et patria around, rev. old england 2 march 1798 entd jas. loyal around i promise to pay to the hon: ble geo: yeoman or bearer the sum of two-pence on the perfect establishment of peace & unanimity for king lords and commons, john bull, edge plain, 32.94g/12h (DH Middlesex 5; cf. R.S. Brown Jr 709). Several edge knocks, obverse fair, reverse fine but with surface damage in centre, extremely rare £150-£200

The accompanying ticket reads 'Yeomanry Medal in possession of member of Leek Troop'. A troop of volunteer cavalry was raised in Leek in 1794 as part of the Staffordshire Regiment of Gentlemen and Yeomanry
