Canada General Service 1866-70, 1 clasp, Fenian Raid 1870 (Cpl. S. D. Kilbourn. 41st. Bn.) good very fine £180-£220

The 41st ‘Brockville Battalion of Rifles’ originated in Brockville, Ontario on 5 October 1866 as a result of the consolidation of six local independent companies, including The Brockville Infantry Company, and comprised a part of the Upper Canada Militia. The formation of the unit came about due to the perceived risk of Fenian attacks on the town of Brockville, exposed as it was on the St. Lawrence, a crossable river in winter when frozen. The battalion served on the St. Lawrence River frontier during the Fenian Raids of 1866 and 1870.
