William O’Flynn was born in Dublin, Ireland, and was a mining engineer in Pine Creek, Alberta, when he enlisted at Calgary on 9 December 1901, aged 23 years 5 months. He served in South Africa with the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles until July 1902. Sold with copied attestation papers which include correspondence relating to the claim for and issue of his medal.
