Military Medal, G.VI.R. (106566 Rfn Lalbahadur Rai 10 GR) good very fine £500-£600
M.M. London Gazette 21 June 1945. The recommendation for the award of an Immediate M.M. states:
‘For marked gallantry in action. On the night of 25/26 February 1945 at Gaungbo, Burma, while his company was being heavily attacked by the enemy, Rifleman Lalbahadur Rai saw Japs forming up in dead ground about forty yards from his position. In order to break up the impending attack Rifleman Lalbahadur Rai crawled up under heavy shell and grenade discharge fire and single handed attacked the Jap forming up point, killing four Japs, wounding three more, while the remainder retreated. By his gallant action Rifleman Lalbahadur Rai undoubtedly stopped the enemy from attacking his platoon at a time when their ammunition was very low.’
